Getting started

New to fasting? Begin here.

Can I use this if I'm new to fasting?

Absolutely! The app adapts to your experience level. Beginners get gentler recommendations and more educational content.

What fasting schedule should I start with?

The app recommends based on your cycle phase and experience. Most beginners start with 12:12 (Gentle) or 14:10 (Moderate) during their first week.

App usage

Connecting your cycle data and getting the most from the app.

The Basics

Do I need to connect Apple Health?

You don't have to - you can enter your cycle details manually. But we strongly recommend it. Apple Health integration keeps your cycle data accurate automatically, which means better, more personalised fasting recommendations from day one.

I already track my cycle in another app. Can I bring that data into FastingBestie?

In most cases, yes, through Apple Health. FastingBestie reads your period data from Apple Health, so any tracking app that saves to Apple Health will flow through to us automatically once you give permission. We never connect to other apps directly, which keeps your data private and in your control.

Which period apps work with FastingBestie?

Any app that saves your period data to Apple Health. That includes Apple's own Cycle Tracking, Clue, Natural Cycles, and Stardust. Flo no longer offers Apple Health sync, so Flo data can't be brought across automatically. If your app isn't listed, check whether it has an Apple Health connection in its settings.

Once connected, do I have to keep re-syncing?

No. It's set and forget. After the one-time setup, each period you log in your other app saves to Apple Health, and FastingBestie picks it up on its own, even when the app is closed. There's no sync button to remember and nothing to repeat.

What exactly does FastingBestie read from Apple Health?

Only your menstrual flow data, which is what we need to work out your cycle phase and tailor your fasting recommendations. We don't read anything we don't need. Your data stays on your device, and you can turn the connection off any time in your iPhone's Health settings.

I use Clue

How do I connect Clue to FastingBestie?

Two quick steps, done once. First, in Clue, turn on the Apple Health connection (Clue settings, Connect to Apple Health). Then in FastingBestie, connect Apple Health and allow read access to your cycle data. After that, anything you log in Clue flows through automatically. You won't need to sync again.

Will my past Clue data come across?

Not automatically. When you switch on Clue's Apple Health connection, Clue starts saving new entries from that point forward, but it doesn't send across what you logged before. That's why we ask for your most recent period start date when you set up FastingBestie, so your recommendations are accurate from day one. Your cycle picture then fills in naturally as you keep logging.

I use Flo

I use Flo. How do I connect it?

Flo has removed its Apple Health connection, so there isn't a way to bring Flo data across automatically right now. The good news is you can enter your cycle details manually in FastingBestie in under a minute, and everything works fully from there.

I'm getting started

I track on paper, or just in my head. Can I still use FastingBestie?

Absolutely. Just enter your most recent period start date and your usual cycle and period length when you set up the app. That's all we need to start giving you phase-based recommendations. No other app or device required.

I don't track my cycle yet. Where do I start?

Welcome, this is a lovely place to begin. Enter your best estimate of your last period start date to get going, and the app will guide you from there. If you'd like it to stay accurate automatically, you can start logging in Apple Health (or Apple's Cycle Tracking), and FastingBestie will keep itself up to date for you.

Cycle & health

Fasting safely around your cycle.

Is this app only for women with regular cycles?

Not at all. FastingBestie tailors its recommendations to where you are in your cycle, and it uses a rolling average so it keeps adapting as your cycle shifts from month to month. Connect Apple Health and it reads your period data to stay accurate on its own, or set your typical cycle length (21–35 days) and period length (2–8 days) to match your pattern. We're also building support for extra signals from wearables, like HRV, to place you in your cycle more accurately than calendar dates alone. If you'd like to help shape that, email , we'd love to hear from you.

Do you support perimenopause or menopause?

Not yet, and it's high on our list. Fasting needs change a lot through perimenopause and into menopause, and we're building dedicated support for those stages. If this is where you are and you'd like to help shape it, email , we'd love to hear from you.

Is intermittent fasting safe for women?

For most healthy women, yes. However, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider, especially if you're pregnant, nursing, have a history of eating disorders, or have any medical conditions.

Privacy & data

What we collect, and what stays on your device.

What data do you collect?

We collect anonymous app usage analytics to help us improve the experience. All fasting recommendations are generated on your device. In future, we'll offer optional cloud sync so you can back up and restore your fasting history. We design for privacy first and will never sell your data.
